 Career Development

Cooper Industries believes in "promotion from within" when the talent and experience is available. Normally, individuals qualified for promotional opportunities are selected from the operating division where the job opening exists. The company intends to use its Management Development and Planning Program and its related succession planning process to identify qualified candidates in this regard. On occasion, such openings are filled by qualified individuals from other Cooper Divisions. Along with the MD&P process, this website is intended to facilitate the identification of qualified candidates in such instances. The open positions posted in the "Career Opportunities" section of this website are listed for your review and consideration. Cooper values your desire to advance and grow with the company and welcomes any inquiries you may have regarding a posted job for which you believe you are qualified. The Company's goal is to fill each open position in a way that benefits both our employees and the company to the fullest extent possible.

The purpose of this Guide is to facilitate your inquiries regarding the positions posted on our website.

  • Print out a copy of the job description. Carefully review the position qualifications to make sure that your education, skills and experience are reasonably in line with the requirements of the job.
  • Your Supervisor and Human Resources Manager will discuss your most recent MD&P Progress Review Worksheet with you to determine if you are a viable candidate for the posted position. This discussion should include a review of your Career Planning Profile, Performance Appraisal and the promotional and/or developmental aspects of the open position.

Step 2: Contact the Human Resources Manager at the hiring facility

  • Once you have received approval to proceed from your Supervisor and local Human Resources Manager, send a notice to the Human Resources Manager at the hiring facility expressing your interest in the posted position.
  • Include a copy of your current MD&P Progress Review Worksheet including your latest Performance Appraisal and your work phone number. Also include your Supervisor's name and work phone number and your Human Resources Manager's name and work phone number.

Step 3: Follow-up with your Local Human Resources Manager

  • Your local Human Resources Manager will inform you if the hiring facility would like to speak to you further about the open position. If you are ultimately extended an offer for the open position, be sure to inform your Supervisor and Human Resources Manager of your decision to accept or reject the offer immediately.
