Non-Explosive Actuators
NEA = Non-Explosive Actuator
- An electro-mechanical mechanism alternative to pyrotechnics used for single-event actuation.
- NEAs are based upon the split-spool technology initially developed in the early 1960s as a means of separating electrical staging connectors on the Atlas-Centaur missile.
- Developed in 1990’s for pyro replacement in spacecrafts (satellite “deployable’s” & battery power system)
