Type S Automatic Load-Transfer Control

S_Control.jpg

The Type S control is designed for use primarily with Kyle Type VR, VLR, VRV, and TSC three-phase, load-break switches in automatic load transfer schemes. Upon special application, the S control can operate electronic reclosers to provide fault-interrupting capability to the load transfer scheme. PST-6 and PST-9 pad-mounted switchgear units also include a Type S control for operation during loss-of-voltage conditions.

Equipment for a Type S load-transfer installation—which includes the control, two loadbreak switches, potential transformers, and interconnecting cables—is generally ordered separately.

Catalog Number KCN55SA, KCN55SB, KCN54SPXXXGYYY
Weatherproof Cabinet The 16-gauge steel cabinet with gasket-sealed door effectively protects the S control from the weather; the finish color is light gray, Munsell 5BG20/0.4.
Enclosed Plug-In-Type Relays The latching-type transfer relay assures consistent S control operation; the interlocking relays assure operating sequence; the phase-voltage-sensing relays pickup at 97 Volts and dropout at 75 Volts. The plug-in-type relays are not only easily maintained, they have hold-down bails for positive seating, and are enclosed to minimize environmental contamination and mechanical damage.
Fuses Isolate the S control from the power source; provided with red indicators for a visual sign of fuse condition; spare fuses in door. Voltage input from all three phases of both Source I and Source II are fused for 10 A-125 Vac (Bussmann Type FNA visual indicating fuse).

Accessories

  • Fault-Block: The fault-block accessory is applicable to VR, VLR, VRV, TSC, CS, and PST-6 switchgear. It prevents the transfer to the alternate source when loss of voltage on the preferred source is due to a load-size fault.
  • Interconnecting Cable Lengths and Sizes: Shielded cable is required between the transfer switches and the S load-transfer control to transmit the line current intelligence for operating the fault-block accessory. Since the accessory contains static, solid-state circuitry, the use of shielded cable is mandatory.
  • Plugs and Receptacles: For wiring convenience, the S load-transfer control cabinet can be fitted with multiple-pin receptacles wired to the external connections terminal boards in the control. Mating plugs are provided for customer connection to the cables from each potential source, each high-voltage switch actuator, and the cable from the switch cts when equipped with the fault-block accessory. All plugs are equipped with grommets for 3/8 to 1/2 in. od cable.
