Segment: Commercial Construction/Lighting
Challenge: Improve lighting performance, energy efficiency and reduce the high number of lighting maintenance issues
Solution: Galleon™ LED area luminaires from Eaton
Results: Brighter, uniform and targeted illumination, while cutting energy usage by 61 percent
“The lighting is amazing. It’s definitely a more modern, cleaner look. And with the recent time change, customers can still see the color and features of the vehicles during evening hours. Even the transport drivers delivering vehicles at night have commented on how unloading vehicles is like working in daylight.” said Bob Winiarczyk, president and dealer principal, Pioneer Ford.
Background: Pioneer Ford is a premiere Ford dealer in Bremen, Georgia focused on a Customer First experience. The goal of the dealership is to ensure that every guest visiting feels like they are the most important person. After years of cold and unfriendly routines in car sales, Pioneer is striving to set the bar in making purchasing a new vehicle as fun and exciting as it should be. Wanting to continue to improve the customer experience, Pioneer Ford decided to upgrade the exterior lighting in the vehicle display areas.
Challenge: Pioneer Ford was experiencing a high number of lighting maintenance issues and wanted a more reliable lighting system, as well as improve the energy usage and lighting performance in the vehicle inventory areas. Working with local utility Georgia Power, the dealership decided to upgrade its exterior area lighting.
“Auto dealerships are very different than typical outdoor area lighting applications,” said Jonathan Bozeman, account executive, Lighting Services, Georgia Power. “While most exterior lighting solutions are installed for safety or security, dealerships also install lighting elements to draw the customer’s eye to the dealership and its vehicles.”
Solution: The team conducted a photometric analysis to ensure the new lighting would meet Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) standards and the desired illumination (footcandle) levels. Using the existing pole locations, the conversion replaced 62,1000-watt metal halide products with 421-watt Galleon fixtures to meet high lumen output needs for the new and used vehicle inventory display areas.
Results: The LED conversion has resulted in a 61 percent energy usage reduction, while providing brighter and uniform illumination, as well as reducing the high number of lighting maintenance issues the auto dealership was experiencing.
The Galleon fixtures incorporate the patented, high-efficiency AccuLED Optics™ system that delivers superior optical control, allowing customers to better see the dealership’s cars’ distinctive features, details and coloring, key factors in the buying process. The choice of 16 specialized optical distributions provides the flexibility to meet application-specific needs. In addition, the Galleon area fixtures are designed to last 60,000 hours, helping to save on lamp replacement maintenance costs.
