Project Description

Coweta-Fayette EMC, headquartered in Palmetto, Georgia, has supplied electricity to homes and businesses in one of America’s fastest growing regions for over 50 years. The utility continually evaluates new technologies to ensure it is offering the best options for its customers. As part of this commitment to serving its customers, Coweta-Fayette EMC partnered with Cooper Lighting to do a pilot project for LED outdoor area lighting at their corporate locations in Palmetto, Newnan and Fayetteville. By retrofitting their parking areas with LED lighting, they expected to gain a better understanding of LED technology, as well as benefit from the significant energy and operational savings.

The project included retrofitting the existing 400W-1000W MH and 150W-400W HPS fixtures with Eaton's Streetworks Ventus™ (206W) and Traditionaire™ (58W) LED luminaires. As a result, the utility’s electrical load for these areas was reduced by 57 percent (9.6 kW) resulting in a projected average annual savings of $6,500 (42,000 kWh) with a 3.5 year payback.

“With Eaton's LED technology, we were expecting the benefits of excellent energy savings over our existing lighting,” said Coweta-Fayette EMC Manager of Engineering, John E. Moore III, PE. “But we were pleasantly surprised by the overall performance resulting in significantly brighter and better lit parking areas. Everyone, including our employees and our customers, is very happy with the results.”
